College Math Options 


Which Math Class Should I Take? 

It's tempting to relax after you finish your last required math class in high school, but taking just one college level math course can fill university requirements before you even get to campus! Here are two options that complete the Quantitative Literacy (QL) requirement at all Utah public colleges and universities.

If you have any questions or don't know which math class you should enroll in talk to your high school counselor. 

STAT 1040

Introduction to Statistics 

Covers descriptive and statistical and statistical methods used to understand data.

Take this if you want to major in:

  • English / Languages             Performing Arts 
  • History                                      Psychology 
  • Humanities                             Social Sciences 
  • Nursing 

MATH 1050

College Algebra  

Covers exploration of algebra topics including functions and equations..

Take this if you want to major in:

  • Business                               Mathematics
  • Health Care                         Science (like Biology, Chemistry, etc.) 
  • Elementary Education                       
  • Engineering

How to Join:

  • Complete and turn in 300 hours of volunteer/community service
  • Service completed between 7th grade and 12th grade may be counted
  • Get required form from your school counselor or check out the Service Board in the hall

Recognition you can receive:

  • Every 75 hours you will receive some kind of recognition
    • 75 Hours - Certificate and Treat
    • 150 Hours - Certificate and Treat
    • 225 Hours - Certificate and Treat
    • 300 Hours - Certificate, MC Project iServe Pin, Eligible to become a member of MC Project iServe, eligible to purchase a letterman's patch and you also get to wear special cords at graduation
  • Service looks good on college applications, resumes, and you can even get scholarships for doing service!

Recommended Service Hours 

7th Grade - 30 Hours
8th Grade - 30 Hours 
9th Grade - 40 Hours

   10th Grade - 60 Hours
   11th Grade - 70 Hours
   ​12th Grade - 70 Hour

 
Need a total of 300 hours in volunteer/community service hours!!
