When to Take Driver's Ed
Permit Requirement
Before enrolling in a Driver Education course, students must have a valid Utah Driving Permit. The permit exam should be completed when students turn 15 years old, and they should begin their 40 hours of supervised driving with a parent or guardian after passing the exam.
Course Timing
To ensure timely completion, students should enroll in Driver Education during the trimester before they turn 16 years old. Course registration should align with birth date and trimester schedules:
- December, January, and February birthdays: Students should take Driver's Ed during 1st trimester
- March, April, and May birthdays: Students should take Driver's Ed during 2nd trimester
- June, July, and August birthdays: Students should take Driver's Ed during 3rd trimester
- September, October, and November birthdays: Students should take Driver's Ed during the summer or 3rd trimester
Option 1: Trimester Courses (In-School)
- Integrated into the school schedule
- Register with a school counselor
- Fee: $255.00

Option 2: Online Driver's Ed (Limited Availability)
- Offered each trimester (availability depends on driving instructors)
- Course provided through AAA and must be completed within 90 days
- First come, first served basis
- Fee: $310.00
Registration
1st Trimester: Registration opens August 1.
2nd Trimester: Registration opens November 1.
3rd Trimester: Registration Opens February 1.
Summer: Registration Opens April 28th.
Important: Students are not officially enrolled until the course fee is paid at the finance office. Space is limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
Option 3: Summer Driver Education
- June 1 – June 12, 2026 (Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.)
- 27 hours of instruction
- Mandatory attendance for all class sessions
- Limited to 70 spots (first come, first served)
- Fee: $285.00
